GMB Casinos Workers Ask Stanley/Genting To Review Value Of British Casino Association Membership

Stanley/Genting operate 43 casinos of which 5 are in London and employ 4,300 people at these casinos
25 Nov 2008

GMB is about to enter talks with casino operator Stanley/Genting over proposed changes to working patterns across the Genting UK Casinos estate. The need for these talks arises from the economic situation facing the UK casino industry and the need to cut back on costs. During these talks GMB ask the company to consider cancelling its membership to the British Casino Association (BCA). GMB will ask the company to assess the value of this membership and look at the benefits of withdrawing from membership which will save the company over £150,000 per year.

Stanley/Gentings operate 43 casinos of which 5 are in London. The company employ 4,300 people at these casinos. Cost per casino of BCA membership for a London casino is £17,504 per year and for a provincial casino £1,680 per year.

Adrian Baker, GMB Organiser said, “Casino operators and license holders should be aware that the credit crunch which is impacting on trade in casinos needs to be addressed from all angles.

Instead of just looking at staff cuts, companies need to be more flexible in their approach. Stanley/Genting’s membership of the BCA is potentially a saving of over £150,000 that can be made with no adverse impact on either GMB members or the company. Other companies in the industry have already withdrawn their membership and it something that GMB will urge Stanley/Genting to consider.”

GMB Christmas Appeal Update and Authentication

Thanks to all of you who have already sent cheques to help SITRAP trade union activist, Allan Hernandez Venegas and his family, in response to our GMB Christmas Appeal. Unfortunately, owing to the preponderance of scam e-mails soliciting money, and gremlins in the system that prevented us from including photographs, many of you were not convinced that the appeal was genuine.
