Statement on creating a new unionAmicus, the GMB and the T&G have strongly and unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to build a new trade union to meet the challenges of the 21st century, at the first meeting of the working party established to carry forward the proposal. 7 Jul 2005
Leaders of the three unions reaffirmed their belief believe that the new union will greatly strengthen the industrial and political position of trade unionism in The meeting agreed that lay member democracy will be the foundation of the new union, with the members themselves having the decisive say on all matters that affect them. The new union will also be committed to organising those workers presently outside any trade union, to campaigning, to equality for all and the promotion of diversity, to internationalism, the education and development of activists and to playing an influential political role. The meeting agreed that a timetable should be discussed for the new union to come into being in January 2007. Further meetings of the working party will be held in July and August. Areas to be discussed in the future include the structure of the new union, noting that all three participating unions presently have strong industrial and regional structures, and issues of finance and accountability. Approved by the Amicus GMB T&G Joint Working Party - |
Inside CampaignsGMB Christmas Appeal Update and AuthenticationThanks to all of you who have already sent cheques to help SITRAP trade union activist, Allan Hernandez Venegas and his family, in response to our GMB Christmas Appeal. Unfortunately, owing to the preponderance of scam e-mails soliciting money, and gremlins in the system that prevented us from including photographs, many of you were not convinced that the appeal was genuine. |
