The European industry federations are organisations of trade unions within one or more public or private economic sectors. They represent the interests of workers in their sectors at the European level, principally in negotiation.
As a general union, GMB affiliates to 6 European industry federations with which we work to protect our members across all of our sectors and join in solidarity to respond to increasingly ruthless globalisation.
We also affiliate to the international arm of these federations — find out more about them here.
Through our affiliation to the TUC, GMB is also affiliated to the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). The ETUC was set up in 1973 to promote the interests of working people at European level and to represent them to the EU institutions. The ETUC is one of the European social partners and is recognised by the European Union, by the Council of Europe and by EFTA as the only representative cross-sectoral trade union organisation at European level. The European industry federations are also affliliated to the ETUC.
