Stephen Hughes MEP - North East

 Stephen Hughes MEP

"As a trade unionist, the focus of my work as an MEP has always been on better rights and protections for workers, those outside of the world of work, and their families, both within Europe and beyond. Together, we have achieved major developments towards a Social Europe - rights to 4 weeks paid annual leave, longer rest breaks, and shorter working hours, rights to be consulted when there are redundancies or company transfers, wider transnational as well as national information and consultation rights, a raft of health and safety protections, equal treatment rights for part-time, fixed term and, very recently and much needed, for temporary agency workers, and much progress in tackling all forms of discrimination. We have achieved much, but we still have more to do, and we must ensure that during the looming economic crisis facing much of the world, our Social Europe is not allowed to go into reverse". http://www.stephenhughesmep.org/

David Martin MEP - Scotland

  David Martin MEP

"What happens in the European Parliament is important to every worker in the UK and throughout the EU. A strong Labour contingent of MEPs in a united Socialist Group can deliver on workplace rights, health and safety and social welfare.

In Europe we are stronger together working for shared goals.Labour MEPs working with the GMB have helped the Socialist Group deliver on development, equality and environmental issues; equal rights for part-time and agency workers; health and safety for all; paid holidays; a shorter working week; parental leave; information and consultation rights and more. Working together, we have achieved a lot but still have more to do." http://www.martinmep.com/home

Glenis Willmott MEP - East Midlands

Glenis Willmott MEP "Having been a GMB Senior Organiser in the Midland and East Coast Region, a long serving secretary of the East Midlands Trade Union and Labour Party Liaison Committee (TULO) and now a Labour MEP, I am experienced in ensuring that the views and interests of GMB members are heard in the Labour Party and in the European Union.

In the European Parliament we are fighting a constant battle against the Tories and Lib Dems to improve workplace rights such as better maternity and paternity leave, measures to control working time, equal rights for temporary and agency workers, protection from cancer-causing chemicals and 'accidents' at work and anti-discrimination provisions." http://www.gleniswillmott.eu/
