Conferences took place between Sunday 6th
June–Wednesday 9th June 2010 in The Floral Hall and
Convention Centre, Southport. Over 500 delegates and 300
visitors met to debate the forthcoming policy of the Union.

GEORGE DOVE SPEAKS OUT ABOUT TYPE 1 DIABETES AT GMB NATIONAL
CONGRESS AND RAISES £26,000 FROM THE UNIONTO
SUPPORT MEDICAL RESEARCH INTO THE CONDITION
George Dove, a 12 year old
from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, addressed 500 delegates
representing more than 600,000 trades union members at the GMB
National Congress in Southport, on Sunday 6th June. Talking openly
about his experiences of living with type 1 diabetes, George
highlighted the importance of raising awareness of the condition,
correcting misconceptions about type 1 diabetes, whilst explaining
why he supports Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, (JDRF) in
its work to fund research to cure, treat and prevent type 1
diabetes. He described his hopes that in the future, children like
him will have wider access to insulin pumps, to make it easier for
young people to manage type 1 diabetes.
