GMB Sections
The 2006 GMB Congress
established three Industrial Sections:
Within each of the Sections
are Sub Sections that are headed by a National Secretary and/or
National Officer. Within each Region each Section is headed by a
senior Organiser who is responsible to the Regional Secretary and
leads a team of GMB officers, Membership Development Officers and
Recruitment Officers.
Each Section holds a
conference every other year to give active members of relevant
industrial sectors the opportunity to discuss issues of common
interest. Even if members can't attend the conferences personally,
they can send motions on any issue affecting their industry through
their branch. The next GMB Section Conferences will be held in
conjunction with GMB Congress 2010 which will be held from Sunday 6
June to Thursday 10 June 2010 in Southport. Elected Congress
delegates for GMB Congress 2010 will also be delegates to their
appropriate GMB Sectional Conference. Branches will be asked to
submit motions to the 2010 Section Conferences at the same time
they are asked to submit Congress motions for that year.
If a particular industry has
national negotiations, the conferences are the opportunity to
influence the bargaining agenda that GMB's National Officials raise
with the employers.
