Workers' Mustn't Suffer For KFC's Foul Up

GMB DEMANDS KFC AND DHL DON’T MAKE WORKERS SUFFER FOR THEIR CHICKEN FOUL UP

Multi-billion pound global giants treating workers at the sharp end like dirt because of their cock up is a disgrace, says GMB

GMB, Britain’s general union, has demanded KFC and DHL ensure workers aren’t made to suffer for the companies’ chicken delivery foul up.

The global fast food chicken giant has been forced to close hundreds of its UK outlets [1] after a ‘bird-brained’ decision to award the delivery contract to DHL in order to save money – a decision GMB warned them would have serious consequences. [2]

KFC’s scheme was to feathered their own nest – but has not only cost 255 jobs at former delivery company Bidvest, it has left hundreds of workers at closed KFC restaurants in limbo.

GMB says KFC and DHL must join forces to make sure affected workers are paid for the hours they’ve lost.

Mick Rix, GMB National Officer, said:

“Our members in KFC franchises are missing out on shifts with no idea when their stores will reopen.

“They’ve told us they’re now being advised to use their holiday entitlement to cover the working time they’ve lost as a result of this mess.

“For a multi-billion pound global giant to treat workers at the sharp end like dirt because of their foul up is a disgrace.

“UK workers in KFC restaurants are losing out due to Colonel Chaos – their contracts are stuck in the bargain bucket.

“We demand KFC and DHL make sure affected workers are paid for the hours they’ve lost.

“These companies need to stop chickening out of their responsibilities in the aftermath of this shocking board-level decision.”
