GMB DEMANDS ANSWERS OVER BOMBARDIER JOB CUTS

Bombardier jobs are crucial to Belfast’s economy and GMB will fight tooth and nail to save them

GMB, the union for Bombardier workers, is demanding answers after the company announced thousands of job cuts.

The Canadian company today announced 5,000 job cuts globally.

Bombardier employs almost 70,000 people, including 5,500 in Northern Ireland.

About 4,000 of those work in its Belfast factory, making it the city's biggest employer. [1]

GMB’s Bombardier members in Northern Ireland had been in fear for their jobs earlier this year over punitive tariffs installed by US President Donald Trump’s administration. [2]

The International Trade Commission (ITC) has overruled the complaint [3] after GMB sent an urgent delegation to Brussels to demand action from the EU. [4]

Michael Mulholland, GMB Regional Organsier, said:

“GMB demands answers from Bombardier for our members in Northern Ireland.

“They have already suffered months of uncertainty following Trump’s tariffs – now they are under the cosh again.

“Bombardier jobs are crucial to Belfast’s economy and GMB will fight tooth and nail to save them.”
