'AoC Stop Punishing Our Members For No Reason'

GMB TELLS COLLEGES ‘STOP PUNISHING OUR MEMBERS FOR NO REASON’

GMB stands in solidarity with our sister unions – the AoC’s approach is unhelpful and will not hasten a compromise.

GMB, the union for further education staff, has hit back at the Association of Colleges (AoC) for punishing their members for no reason.

The AoC is refusing to consider the national pay claim for 2018/19 while local pay disputes with GMB’s sister unions Unite and UCU are ongoing.

At a meeting of the National Joint Forum (NJF) on 1 May, the trade unions set out a national claim for 2018/19 demanding a pay rise of 5% or £1,500, whichever is greater.

However, the AoC said it will not begin discussions on next year’s claim until current pay disputes are resolved.

GMB stands in solidarity with sister unions on this – but points out as GMB aren’t involved in the dispute the AoC are punishing members for no reason whatsoever.

Sharon Holder, GMB National Officer, said:

“GMB stands in solidarity with our sister unions – the AoC’s approach is unhelpful and will not hasten a compromise.

“But for GMB members it is doubly unfair – as they are not even involved in any of
these disputes.

“We call on the AoC to stop punishing our members for no reason – and move forward
with this year’s pay claim.”
