‘Traffic Chaos’ Warning As GMB Members at Arriva Walk Out Over Pay Dispute

Wednesday, October 18, 2017

Yesterday inflation hit 3%, so this Arriva pay offer means a real terms pay cut for members.

GMB members working for Arriva will walk out tomorrow [October 19 2017] in the first of three strikes following a pay dispute.

Workers at eleven Arriva depots in Merseyside [see note 1 for full list of depots involved] will take full day industrial action on October 19, 23 and 30.

The company, which made a profit of £25million last year, offered GMB members a pay rise of just 31 pence an hour. [2]

This offer was rejected after a ballot by the Joint Trade Union Representatives Forum.

Payments to Arriva’s highest paid director totalled £4.4 million last year.

Eddie Parker, GMB Organiser, said:

“GMB’s hard working Arriva members just want a fair deal – like everybody else.

“The final pay off made by the company represents an increase between 1.6% and 2.6%.

“Yesterday inflation hit 3%, so this is in effect a real terms pay cut for members.

“No one wants to go on strike and our members are taking industrial action as a last resort.

“With eleven sites affected across Merseyside commuters should be aware of potential traffic chaos.”
