GMB ASBO Protest Outside Mc Donald’s Uk Head Office Tomorrow 5th September Over Zero Hours Contracts For Nearly 83,000 Staff
Rent payments aren't flexible and neither are gas bills or the weekly shopping bill so flexible wages are not much use to anyone except McDonalds says GMB.
GMB members with Tom Watson Labour MP for West Bromwich East will present a GMB ASBO to the senior managers at McDonald’s UK Head Office in Finchley, London tomorrow Thursday 5th September 2013 in protest at offering zero hours contacts to 83,000 employees in the UK.
The details of the photo call are as follows:
THURSDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER
OUTSIDE MCDONALD’S HEAD OFFICE
11-59 HIGH ROAD,
LONDON, N2 8AW
GMB members will have flags and banners and a large printed GMB Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) which will be handed in to McDonalds Head Office.
Last month McDonalds it was reported that “McDonald’s has admitted 90 per cent of its UK employees are on zero-hours contracts. The admission indicates the fast-food chain is potentially the largest zero-hours employer in the UK’s private sector, with 82,800 contracted staff not guaranteed work or a stable income”.
The McDonalds website say “At McDonalds UK, we pride ourselves on being a flexible employer and for many of our employees thats why they have chosen us as their place of work….
… One of the ways we can offer a flexible work schedule is through our zero hours contracts and all of our hourly paid employees are on these contracts…
We have used zero hours contracts in the UK since we opened our first restaurant in 1974.
Tom Watson, Labour MP for West Bromwich East, said "This is what joint union and Labour campaigning looks like in the future."
Martin Smith GMB national organizer said “McDonalds deserve an anti social behaviour order for offering xzero hours contracts to nearly 83,000 staff in the UK. We can't re-build our economy on McJobs. Not many people can make ends meet on a zero hours contracts.
Many McDonalds staff rely on benefits to survive. Rent payments aren't flexible and neither are gas bills or the weekly shopping bill so flexible wages are not much use to anyone except McDonalds".
