GMB Call On Government To Provide Fully Worked Strategy To Manage UK’s Electricity System
The electricity supply balance is delicate and the government needs to stop the whispering and come clean says GMB.
GMB, the union for energy workers, commented on reports that National Grid may be stripped of its dual role as operator and owner of the UK’s power system.
The creation of a not-for-profit company that would be overseen by energy regulator Ofgem is reportedly being considered to take over management of the country’s electricity’s supplies.
Brian Strutton, GMB National Secretary, says "It is well known that National Grid's dual role of owner and operator of the electricity transmission system has been under scrutiny and GMB has been calling for the government to take responsibility for some time.
However, the electricity supply balance is delicate and the government needs to stop the whispering and come clean with a fully worked strategy to ensure short and long term energy security.”
