GMB PROTEST AS ARCO LAUNCH BID TO DE-RECOGNISE UNION
GMB will demonstrate outside the company’s office in Preston on Wednesday 29 August 2018 between 12noon and 2pm, urging management to come to the table on this issue
GMB has slammed the use of ‘bully boy tactics’ as Arco launch a bid to de-recognise the union.
Arco, who sew logos on work uniforms for companies such as BAE systems from their factory in Preston, served notice of the de-rocgnition following a pay ballot.
GMB balloted members during this year’s pay negotiations - which members rejected.
The figures were presented to the company, who took advantage of the fact GMB members made up less than 50% of the workforce.
Management then intimidated workers by questioning them one by one if they wanted continued recognition.
Arco and GMB have held long established industrial relations with a joint recognition agreement in place since 2012, and historically between CCM LTD which existed prior to Arco back in 1993.
However during recent years their management style has become aggressive and many members have suffered disciplinary action as a result.
GMB has taken Arco to the CAC on more than one occasion.
Karen Lewis, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
"This is nothing more than bully boy tactics meant to intimidate and put fear amongst those less able to speak up for themselves.
“GMB asks for support from the company’s clients such as BAE Systems, to put pressure on Arco to change their minds and return to the table to discuss an amicable way to continue with our industrial relations and retain the recognition agreement.
“Without GMB recognition terms and conditions can be driven down and pay rises in line with inflation will become a thing of the past.
“GMB will demonstrate outside the company’s office in Preston on Wednesday 29 August 2018between 12noon and 2pm, urging management to come to the table on this issue.
“GMB urges non-members at Arco to sign up and increase pressure on the company.”
