GMB SLAMS ‘DEVASTATING’ DECISION TO AXE 70 JOBS AT SEVERFIELD
GMB is working closely with the affected membership to mitigate compulsory job losses and to secure the best possible deal through the consultation period.
GMB has criticised the ‘devastating’ decision to axe 70 jobs at the Severfield site in Lostock.
The company announced the cuts as part of a plan to restructure manufacturing capacity in the UK.
A consultation on the redundnacies began on February 26.
Stephen Boden, GMB Organiser, said:
“This announcement is devastating news for our members and their families.
"The proposed restructure follows recent changes in the nature, mix and timing of work being carried out by the company - and uncertainty over Brexit is causing delays in new contracts being awarded.
“GMB is working closely with the affected membership to mitigate compulsory job losses and to secure the best possible deal through the consultation period.”
