Cuts Lobby Of Calderdale Council

Tuesday 22nd February 2011

GMB MEMBERS TO LOBBY CALDERDALE COUNCIL BUDGET MEETING ON MONDAY 28TH FEBRUARY 2011 OVER CUTS IN JOBS AND SERVICES

It is not too late for councillors to listen to peoples concerns and realise the damaging effects that cuts will have to the services the most vulnerable depend on

Next week GMB members employed at Calderdale Council and their families will lobby Calderdale Council budget meeting over cuts in jobs and services as a consequence of cuts in funding to the council arising from the Tory Liberal coalition government spending review.

The lobby will be held from:

5.00PMon

MONDAY 28TH FEBRUARY at

HALIFAX TOWN HALL

CROSSLEY STREET
HALIFAX

HX1 1UJ

The lobby will also be attended by members of other unions at the Council as well as union members from other workplaces and by service users hoping to make their voices heard.

There is no overall political control at Calderdale Council. The Council has already announced that 200 posts will be lost. In 2010/11 revenue spending at the Council was £190.6 million. In 2011/12 this has been reduced to £181.2 million and there is a further reduction in 2012/13 to £172.2 million.

Gary Baker, GMB Organiser said, "Every job cut at the Council is a reduction in services for the people of Calderdale and will damage the quality of service provision.

For months GMB has sought alternatives to compulsory redundancies with Calderdale Council. It is not too late for councillors to listen to peoples concerns and realise the damaging effects that cuts will have to the services the most vulnerable depend on. That is the reason why GMB members will be attending this lobby.

GMB members are totally opposed to the cuts and wish to see the council protect all services for the future of Calderdale."
