Ann Skipper, GMB Branch Secretary
said, "GMB members feel it is vital that the parents of the
children currently at Ashley School and future students are alerted
to the need to maintain the accountability and transparency that
exists while the school is under the authority of the local
authority which will be lost if Ashley School becomes an
Academy.
GMB has found from its
experience of schools that have moved to Academy status that the
public funds that continue to fund the children's education is
siphoned off to pay big salaries to head teachers and
suppliers.
Parents must ask the governors
at the meeting what safeguard they will put in place to make sure
that the money goes to the kids education and the upkeep of the
school buildings and amenities. They must ask about the protection
of the pay and conditions of the teachers and school support staff,
and much more."
