CAMERON GUILTY OF TURNING A
LEGITIMATE QUESTION OF SECURITY INTO A GENERALISED ATTACK ON
MULTICULTURALISM
Cameron needs to be specific
in his condemnations while being careful not to alienate whole
communities and give fuel to those who cannot accept change or
modern Britain says GMB
GMB commented on the speech by Prime
Minister David Cameron in Munich on Saturday 5th Feb on
multiculturalism.
Kamaljeet Jandu, GMB National Officer
for Equality, said: "Cameron's is guilty of turning a
legitimate question of security into a generalised attack on
multiculturalism and in the process condemning and criminalising
the whole of Muslim community. This can only lead to further abuse
and threats of violence against British Muslims or people of Asian
origin. Cameron has given sustenance to the groups like the English
Defence League.
Further,
Britainis a nation of immigrants and has
always had cultures from other parts of the world that has
enriched Britain.
Throughout our history we have
seen waves of people with other cultures coming into our country
and assimilating these into mainstream British society. This has
been the case with the Huguenots fleeing religious persecution from
the Europe, the Irish fleeing poverty and famine in Ireland, Jewish
people fleeing the Nazi persecutions and as well as people from the
Caribbean and the Indian sub-continent. All these communities have
made a contribution to the economic, social and cultural well being
of Britain.
Cameron needs to be specific
in his condemnations while being careful not alienate whole
communities and give fuel to those who cannot accept change or
modern Britain."
