Kamaljeet Jandu, GMB national officer for equality and diversity, said: "An increasing number of women are playing a vital role in the economy and in the workplace while balancing the needs of their families. There are 85 areas in the UKwhere women in employment outnumber men.  So what happens to women in the workplace is no longer a minority issue.

GMB call on the government to recognise this reality in the workplace.

Government should put in place legislation and policies which support women at work. Barriers to women's recruitment and promotion should be removed.  At work women should receive equal pay and have access to family friendly flexible working arrangements. The coalition government's failure to fully implement the Equality Act 2010 is a step in the wrong direction.

Women should also be able to work in an environment free of sexual harassment and any other form of sexist banter. What happened at Sky Sport is not an isolated case and employers have a duty of care to have cultures which are non discriminatory and encourage participation by all."
