MPs Meet GMB NHS Workers On Vintage Ambulance

STOKE MPS MEET GMB NHS WORKERS ON VINTAGE AMBULANCE TO CELEBRATE NHS 70th BIRTHDAY

Our members working in the West Ambulance Service play a fundamental role in the health of our nation says GMB Union

Stoke-on-Trent MP’s Ruth Smeeth and Gareth Snell boarded a vintage rescue ambulance today [Thursday, July 5, 2018] to meet GMB NHS workers as part of the health service’s 70th birthday celebrations. [1]

The archaic ambulance travelled to the Ambulance Hub in Hanley, Stoke on Trent, to highlight the amazing work done by GMB Union’s public sector super heroes in the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS).

Both MPs handed over a special birthday card and gave out tasty treats to staff as part of a massive ‘thank you’ to all of them for their life saving work.

WMAS is facing increased demand year on year and is also having to deal with the effects of wider NHS underfunding.

At the same time, the number of qualified paramedics has drastically fallen.  This is why GMB and the MPs thinks it is so important to support our public sector super heroes.

Ruth Smeeth MP said:

“Our NHS is one of this country’s proudest achievements. Over the last 70 years, every family has accessed this vital institution.

“The paramedics, doctors, nurses and support staff of our health service do incredible work.

“But here in North Staffordshire and across the country they are struggling under the weight of cuts and staff shortages.

“If we want our NHS to be here for the next generation, we need the Government to wake up and invest in the NHS family and local services.

“The alternative doesn’t bear thinking about.”

Stuart Richards, GMB Senior Organiser, said:

“Our members working in WMAS play a fundamental role in the health of our nation.

“They are public service super heroes and it’s important that we thank them for their contribution.

“Part of that is acknowledging that we need to ensure the NHS is saved for the next 70 years.

“That means a properly funded health service with appropriately paid staff.”
