£15bn gap between taxes and expenditures in Scotland risks the services and jobs people depend on says GMB Scotland.
GMB Scotland commented on the latest Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) bulletin which showed a deficit of almost £15bn between taxes raised and public expenditure in Scotland. See notes to editors for a link to a report from BBC Scotland
Gary Smith, GMB Scotland secretary, said "This confirms what GMB Scotland has been saying about the erosion of the tax base by the Scottish government.
Years of neglect of the fundamentals in the Scottish economy are coming home to roost. High value manufacturing has been decimated post devolution and the economy has become increasingly marked by low paid, low skilled casualised work.
The huge numbers of job cuts in public services could further compound the economic gloom in the months ahead.”
