'Ostrich' Chancellor Makes Spring Statement

Tuesday, March 13, 2018

GMB RESPOND TO ‘OSTRICH’ CHANCELLOR’S SPRING STATEMENT

GMB polling just this week showed the public – including Conservative voters – are sick of the austerity and cuts that have pushed our public services to the brink.

GMB, Britain’s general union, has responded to Chancellor Philip Hammond’s Spring Budget Statement today.

Tim Roache, GMB General Secretary, said:

“This spring statement makes Philip Hammond look like an ostrich burying his head in the sand.

“The cost of living is rising faster than wages, the economy is stagnating, people have had enough.

“GMB polling just this week showed the public – including Conservative voters – are sick of the austerity and cuts that have pushed our public services to the brink.[1]

“But what do we get today? More of the same.

“The Chancellor should spend a day in the shoes of a GMB member and begin to see how the economy looks from their point of view.”
