GMB RESPONDS TO ‘WORRYING’ FALL IN MANUFACTURING OUTPUT
The Government's haphazard approach to Brexit - coupled with Trump’s protectionist steel tariffs, are putting high quality UK jobs on the line says GMB Union
GMB, the manufacturing union, has responded to a ‘worrying’ fall in manufacturing output.
New ONS figures, published today, show falls in manufacturing (-1.2%) and construction (-1.7%) as part of the latest GDP update.
Tim Roache, GMB General Secretary, said:
"Today’s figures showing a fall in manufacturing output are hugely worrying.
“The Government's haphazard approach to Brexit - coupled with Trump’s protectionist steeltariffs, are putting high quality UK jobs on the line.
“A Cabinet that is squabbling amongst itself instead of getting on with running the country is hurting industry and leaving millions of UK workers and their families unable to make long terms plans because they’ve no idea if their jobs are safe.
“The Government should stop worrying about their own jobs, and start worrying about the thousands of manufacturing and construction jobs at risk."
