Activities For GMB
Members To Get Involved In
As you are no doubt aware
the government has finally recognised Workers’ Memorial Day this
year. While it is not an official holiday there are a number of
things which could be carried out in the workplace in commemoration
of the day.
- Have a minutes silence throughout the whole workplace. This
could involve all congregating in the canteen, car park or factory
floor. This could take place at noon.
- Ask your employer if they fly a company flag to fly it at half
mast for the day.
- Conduct a workplace safety inspection to highlight the
day.
- Arrange for the health and safety committee to meet on that
day.
- Promote the wearing of the purple “forget me
not” ribbons, which are available from the Hazards
Campaign*.
- Arrange a stall in reception or canteen areas to promote GMB
H&S materials.
- Encourage members’ participation by putting up GMB Workers
Memorial Day posters on workplace noticeboards.
The GMB response to the
government’s Consultation can be found on the GMB website -
www.gmb.org.uk.
