Your Rights At Work
UK workers are covered have hundreds of employment rights in the
UK and being a GMB member helps to get your rights respected by
your employer.
Workers who belong to a trade union earn on average an extra
12.5% more than workers who don’t belong to a trade union.
Ask yourself the following questions:
Do you get an annual pay rise?
Do you get your full holiday
entitlement of at least 5.6 weeks (equivalent to 28 days
for someone working 5 days a week) each year?
Does your employer take any notice of your
opinion or consult you about your job?
Are you given the opportunity to have a say
on issues that affect you at work?
Is your workplace safe?
If you answered ‘NO’ to any of these then
you need to join GMB and gets these issues sorted out.
You have a legal right to belong to GMB. GMB will never tell
your boss that you are a GMB member if you pay your monthly
subscription by Direct Debit. Your boss will know if you pay by
‘check-off’ but not all employers offer this service. If 50%
plus one employees in your place of work join GMB, then GMB
can become apple to become the ‘recognised’ union. This means
GMB can come into your company and directly negotiate on your
behalf. Even without recognition, GMB can organise your
workplace and represent all GMB members who work there if they fall
victim to disciplinaries and grievances.
