Save Derbyshire Care Homes

Sign our open letter to Council Leader Barry Lewis

Conservative run Derbyshire County Council and it's leader Councillor Barry Lewis are considering the closure of seven care homes across Derbyshire, threatening to push hundreds of elderly local residents and hard working care staff into uncertainty.

GMB Midland & East Coast is backing the calls of local residents, families and staff in saying enough is enough; Derbyshire County Council must take a step back and review this decision before it's too late.

We're out campaigning with local people to save these care homes. Rather than closing care homes, we think Councillor Barry Lewis should be here with us.

Dear Councillor Barry Lewis

The closure of seven care homes will be bad for residents, bad for their families, bad for hardworking staff and bad for Debryshire. I support the campaign to keep them open.

I call on you and your administration to take a step back and consider the negative impact these closures will have. Instead of spending local people's council tax on moving our care homes into the private sector, Derbyshire County Council should be investing in the future of our care homes for generations to come.

This issue will no doubt be important to Derbyshire people at the Derbyshire County Council elections in May 2021; please do the right thing, listen to local people and save Derbyshire's care homes.
