GMB refuse workers employed by Serco in Charnwood have met today to plan next steps in their campaign for pay justice at the company.

Refuse workers have at the company have issued advance notice of potential industrial action in late December and pay talks are ongoing this week.

Jim Clarke, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

“It’s disappointing that Serco haven’t already taken the opportunity to avoid extremely disruptive industrial action this Christmas. However we’re hopeful Serco will act before it’s too late and meet our members modest aspirations for fair pay at the company.

Industrial action is always a last resort and Serco top brass need to act quick to avoid household waste piling up in local communities between Christmas and new year.

Our members are key workers that have worked throughout the pandemic to keep local communities in Charnwood clean and safe. Local people have been hugely supportive of our members and we’d like to put our thanks to them on record”.
