GMB, Britain’s general union, has called for a pay ratio as new figures show CEO’s earn 117 times more than the average worker.

Research by the CIPD and high pay centre released today reveal the average CEO salary is £3.46 million a year – compared to just £29,574 an average UK full-time worker earns.

Tim Roache, GMB General Secretary, said:

“It’s an absolute scandal the average worker will have graft for more than a century to earn the same pay a CEO gets in just a year.

“Fat cats at the top are slurping the cream while working people struggle to make ends meet and feed their families.

“GMB has never been against people getting well paid for doing a good job – but we need a maximum pay ratio enshrined in law to keep our society fair and healthy.”
