Occupation of famous shipyard to continue as battle expected to hit court

GMB union has vowed to carry on the fight to save Harland and Wolff despite administrators being called in.

Harland and Wolff has been betrayed by Boris Johnson and the Conservatives' complete lack of a plan to protect our manufacturing jobs.

The deadline to find a buyer for the world famous ‘Titanic’ yard in Belfast will passes at 5pm today [Monday 5 August 2019].

Administrators BDO have now been called in.

But workers, who have been occupying the site since last Monday, say they are going nowhere.

BDO are expected to apply for a court injunction tomorrow

Michael Mulholland, GMB Organiser, said:

“Harland and Wolff has been betrayed by Boris Johnson and the Conservatives' complete lack of a plan to protect our manufacturing jobs.

"The future of Harland and Wolff is more than a ‘commercial issue’ that the Prime Minister can stand by and do nothing about.

“But we will not give up on this famous shipyard.

“The occupation will continue and our battle will continue.”
