GMB, the union for NHS staff, has responded to the Public Account Committee’s crticial report on the Government’s NHS plan. [1]

Rachel Harrison, GMB National Officer, said:

“Today’s PAC report highlights what we have been saying to the Government from the start

“With more than 100,000 staff vacancies and no credible plan for how to deal with this in the Governments Long Term Plan, the NHS is facing the single biggest crisis since its creation.

“It’s not just recruitment that is desperately low, there is a retention crisis as floods of loyal NHS staff leave after years of real terms pay cuts and increasing workloads and pressures.

“Staff with years of skills and experience are leaving the service because of stress, workloads, lack of training and development opportunities.

“Instead of empty promises, the government needs to make sure our NHS staff get a proper pay rise and recognition for the incredible work they do.
