It's time for Pay Justice Now

Pay Justice Now is a fight for us, for those we care for, and for the public services we all rely on.

Since 2010, local government workers have seen almost a quarter of the value of their pay pinched from freezes and low increases in wages while the cost of living has continued to rise.

GMB members have selflessly continued to put themselves on the frontline to deliver the essential services we rely on. They do so as a decade of austerity cuts, redundancies and impossible workloads have made it more difficult to deliver them and the unprecedented impact of Covid-19 even harder to deal with.

More austerity is not the answer, yet recently some in the Government have announced plans for a new pay freeze for public sector workers.

A new pay freeze would be insulting to our members and to the Government’s own promise to “do whatever is necessary” to support local authorities during this Pandemic.

GMB is clear that only a substantial pay increase can begin to recover what our members have lost from a decade of cuts, austerity and crisis.

It needs to be paid for by new money from central government and it should come with a better deal at work as set out by GMB’s accompanying Conditions Claim here.

Pay Justice Now is a fight for us, for those we care for, and for the public services we all rely on.

Everyone can play their part and GMB members’ collective action is crucial if we are to win.

There are four ways you can help campaign for Pay Justice Now which you can find here.

Say no to pay freezes and low increases, say yes to pay justice!
