GMB Jobs Charter

Saving jobs needs employers and their workers’ trade union to work together and collaborate to save jobs.

It is often the workforce themselves that can find solutions to seemingly impossible economic situations and they should be extensively consulted via their trade union.

GMB invites employers to agree with the following principles:

  1. ​​An ongoing dialogue with GMB about the economic health and viability of the company.
  2. Open and transparent sharing of information to inform such dialogue.
  3. To explore every option to avoid compulsory redundancies. Commitment to early and meaningful consultation, beyond the legal minimum, around potential redundancies with a view to reaching agreement and to avoiding job losses.
  4. Coordination of all possible channels to save jobs including communities, local and national Government, shareholders, managers, employees, trade unions, etc.
