Birmingham Pay Justice - How long is it reasonable to wait?

Posted on:

Dear GMB Member,

Last week GMB launched it's strike ballot at Birmingham City Council and the response from GMB members so far has been huge.

Workers in every part of Birmingham City Council have already cast their vote and had their say on the next steps of our campaign for pay justice.

GMB members like you are voting to say enough is enough: they demand and end to the equal pay crisis and commitments to safeguard jobs.

This weekend, GMB's Rhea Wolfson was on BBC Midlands asking how long Council leaders think it's reasonable for GMB members to wait until they actually do something about this crisis.

Watch ⬇️

GMB members have had enough of waiting, it's time for Birmingham City Council to act.

We can only win if we send a strong and united message as GMB members at Birmingham City Council.

That means using your vote and voting YES to show you'd be winning to take strike action to end this.
Thank you.

Birmingham's Equal Pay Crisis - No more delay, time to have your say

Dear GMB Member,

Birmingham’s Equal Pay Crisis – No More Delay, Time to Have Your Say

Last week, GMB asked Birmingham City Council Chief Executive Deborah Cadman to come clean on the plan to settle our members’ equal pay claims.

In response, we were told settlement talks would not start until into the new year – an unjustifiable decision which could add tens of millions of pounds to Birmingham’s equal pay debts and threaten services across the city.

Enough is enough.

It’s time for Birmingham to get serious about settlement.

In the next 48 hours, you will receive an email or text from GMB asking you to vote on strike action.

This is your chance to send a message loud and clear that Birmingham City Council workers have had enough and want an end to this crisis.

When you get your message to vote, please vote and vote YES to show you would be willing to take strike action if the Council don’t meet the demands of thousands of working Brummies’.

We’ve produced an FAQ on the ballot and what it means. Just click below.
