We are currently seeking to fill a Political Officer vacancy based at our National Office in London.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join GMB’s small yet high functioning national political team and play a key role using your political knowledge to support the implementation and delivery of the Union’s political strategy on a national level.
The successful candidate must have a good understanding of the political environment at national, regional and local levels across the UK. Engaging with parliamentarians to develop support for our industrial goals is key, as is working with GMB staff and members to deliver on a wide range of industrial campaigns. Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with politicians, their advisers and other key stakeholders is essential for this role. The postholder will also work with regional colleagues to support political activity on a local and regional level.
As Political Officer, you’ll possess strong knowledge and experience of the UK political system and parliamentary procedures [including understanding of devolved governments] and be able to demonstrate experience in delivering on strategies to influence policy development and legislation. You’ll have great communication skills, with the ability to support the delivery of GMB’s political goals by identifying influencing opportunities and supporting the Union’s most senior leaders’ with stakeholder engagement, to proactively pursue these.
Information about the role:
- The successful post-holder will be expected to attend regional or national meetings/events.
- The hours of work for this post are designated as ‘unspecified’, and there will be a requirement for the successful candidate to work unsocial hours, which may include some weekend or evening work, when required by the role.
