JOB DESCRIPTION
GMB is one of the UK and Ireland’s largest general trade unions: we’re proud to represent over half a million members from across the professional spectrum and all walks of life.
About the Role
Are you passionate about media, politics, and making a tangible difference in the workplace? At GMB, we are rooted in our values of solidarity, equality, democracy, and collective strength. As part of our continued commitment to ensuring fairness and justice in the workplace, we are seeking a proactive and committed candidate to join us as a Media, Research & Political Officer in our North-West & Irish region team. This is a rare opportunity to work at the heart of the trade union movement, shaping communications, supporting campaigns, and strengthening political engagement across the region.
You’ll be part of a dynamic team dedicated to improving the lives of working people. You’ll have the chance to influence policy, support grassroots activism, and play a key role in shaping the future of the Region's political movement.
GMB is one of the UK’s largest and fastest-growing trade unions; if you’re looking for a new challenge where you can gain first-hand experience influencing politics, policy, and workplace change and contribute to a wider movement that makes a difference to the lives of millions based in a values-driven environment committed to social justice and equality, we’d like to hear from you.

- Proven skills in writing, editing, and digital media.
- Experience in political campaigning, media work, or trade union activity.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and influence.
This is an extremely varied but highly rewarding role, and a commitment to putting the needs of working people first is absolutely essential.
In return, we offer excellent terms and benefits, including:
- Final Salary Pension Scheme
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Childcare Assistance Scheme

Further Information about the role:
- The successful post-holder will be expected to attend meetings/events outside of their base office, so a willingness to travel is a must.
