JOB DESCRIPTION
GMB's National Office is seeking applications from individuals for the position of Equality & Inclusion Organiser on a 6 month fixed-term contract.
GMB is one of the UK and Ireland’s largest general trade unions: we’re proud to represent over half a million members from across the professional spectrum and all walks of life. We are proud of our strong values of fairness, equality, solidarity, and collective action.
A vacancy has arisen for an Equality & Inclusion Organiser to join our National Office team. This role sits at the heart of our mission: the successful candidate will help ensure that equality isn’t just something we talk about but something we win on. Whether that’s improving conditions in workplaces, influencing national debates, or strengthening our activist base, your work will have a direct and lasting impact.
This is an opportunity to shape the future of equality in the workplace, amplify the voices that too often go unheard, and build real power with members across the country.
We’re looking for someone who understands that equality isn’t a side issue: it’s at the heart of every campaign and every workplace victory.
About the Role
As our National Equality & Inclusion Organiser, you’ll be driving the energy behind a growing, diverse movement of members and activists. You’ll work with people who are ready to challenge unfairness and help turn that momentum into lasting change.
From supporting grassroots activists to delivering on national campaigns, you’ll help connect people, ideas, and action. You’ll create spaces where members feel confident to lead, organise, and win.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be at the centre of building a stronger, more inclusive movement - bringing people together, spotting opportunities, and helping campaigns grow.
You’ll help ensure equality is not an add-on, but something that runs through everything we do, from recruitment and organising, to bargaining and public campaigning.
Most importantly, you’ll help people step forward, find their voice, and lead change in their own workplaces and communities.
Who We’re Looking For
You’re someone who believes deeply in fairness and inclusion and knows that change happens when people organise together.
You’re confident working with a wide range of people and can build trust quickly. You know how to bring energy to a campaign, how to keep people engaged, and how to turn ideas into action.
You understand the power of collective organising and feel comfortable navigating complex conversations around equality, identity, and justice.
We particularly welcome applications from candidates who reflect the diversity of our membership and who share our commitment to advancing workers’ rights.
In return, we offer excellent terms and benefits, including:
- Final Salary Pension Scheme
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Childcare Assistance Scheme
- Season Ticket Loan
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Generous holiday allowance
- Eye Care claim back Scheme
- Annual Leave Purchase Scheme
- Annual Health Check
This is a varied and challenging role; if you think you may be who we're looking for and if you feel you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification in the job description, we’d like to hear from you.
Please note:
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered, so please ensure you have completed all sections of the application form (including referee details) and submitted no later than the specified deadline.
