A U-turn by Northern Ireland's Department of Health, which means care workers will not get a promised pay rise, has been branded 'appalling' by GMB Union.
Health Minister Mike Nesbitt last week announced Minister approval to pay all health and social care staff in Northern Ireland the Agenda for Change pay uplift of 3.6 per cent, back dated till the 1 April 2025.
However he has now confirmed not all care staff will receive the pay rise.
Alan Perry, GMB Senior Organiser, said:
"Many of GMB's members in the independent care sector are only paid the National Minimum Wage.
"They are totally appalled and extremely angry by this announcement and feel completely let down by the Minister.
"For many this is not a job, it's a vocation to care for the elderly and most vulnerable in our society.
"Once again are let down by this Minister; they've had enough of his broken promises.
