GMB Union members at Urenco, in Cheshire, have voted for strike action in a dispute over pay.
More than 80 per cent of GMB members, the largest union at the Capenhurst enrichment site, have voted to take strike action.
The ballot opened on 21 July 2026 and closed today, following protracted pay negotiations that began at the end of 2025.
Union members are demanding a pay rise of at least 4.5 per cent, in line with RPI in September 2025.
They have received a pay settlement based on this figure for nearly a decade, but the company have only offered 4.1 per cent as a final offer.
Urenco’s recent press release shows order book growth and a profit of nearly £13 million.
Members of Unite the Union have also been balloted on strike action for the same reason.
Steve Boden, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“Urenco have dragged out negotiations for months while our members go without a pay rise.
"They’ve been left with no choice but to go with the nuclear option and vote for strike action.
"These are high skilled workers in a strategically vital industry for the UK; they deserve a real pay rise.
"It’s time for Urenco to de-escalate and make an improved offer.”
