GMB Union has reacted to the findings of the Covid Inquiry’s care module which were released today [Tuesday].
Natalie Grayson, GMB National Officer, said:
"Our carers were on the front line during the pandemic – they were left vulnerable and terribly exposed as our care homes turned into morgues.
"That can not be allowed to happen again.
"Today's recommendations fall short of the root and branch reform our care sector needs - but this was always outside the remit of this inquiry.
"It does recognise the incredible contribution care staff made in trying to keep our most vulnerable members of society alive - or at least treated with respect in their final hours - during a global pandemic.
"We look forward to working with the Government to enact the recommendations that have been made."
