GMB Trade Union - Equal pay protest at Knowsley Council

A mass protest will take place at Knowsley town hall as GMB prepares to launch equal pay claims that could be worth tens of millions of pounds.

Where: Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, 20 Archway Road L36 9UX

When: 12noon on Monday 9 March 2026

Dozens of demonstrators are expected at the council building, to highlight that thousands of workers in roles traditionally held by woman may have been underpaid compared to work done by those in roles dominated by men.

GMB is in the process of launching claims on behalf of administration assistants and chef supervisors.

Michael Clark, GMB Senior Organiser, said:

“It’s been 50 years since the Equal Pay Act, yet women are still being forced to fight for the pay that they’re due.

“Knowsley must listen to them – and see how other councils have worked with GMB to settle this historic injustice without resorting to the courts.

"We urge anyone working for Knowsley who thinks they may be affected to join GMB so we can help you claim what you're owed."
