GMB Trade Union - Almost 300 Mersey Care workers to strike over pay

The NHS is on life support; this Government have the cure, but they are refusing to use it

Almost 300 health care workers at Mersey Care will take strike action over pay.

Staff including nurses, health care assistants, support staff, cleaners and admin staff will walk out for 24 hours from 00:01 on 28 December 2022.

They will join more than 10,000 GMB ambulance workers who will strike on the same day across England and Wales.

Mersey Care workers voted to strike over the Government’s imposed 4 per cent pay award - another massive real terms pay cut.

GMB representatives will now meet with the trusts to discuss requirements for emergency cover.

Mike Buoey, GMB Organiser, said:

“After more than a decade of Conservative cuts to the service and their pay packets, Mersey Care staff have had enough.

“Health workers never want to take strike action, but this Government has left them with little choice.

“Steve Barclay needs to listen to workers. He needs to talk to GMB about pay, or he has no chance of averting these strikes.

“The NHS is on life support; Mr Barclay and his Government have the cure, but they are refusing to use it.

"They need to start negotiating on pay before it’s too late.”
