GMB Trade Union - BMA staff announce fresh strike date

More than 450 staff working for the British Medical Association (BMA) will take part in further strike action in their ongoing fight for a fair pay rise.

Staff will take their fifth day of strike action on Saturday 18 April, which was set to coincide with the Resident Doctors Conference.

The conference has now been postponed as a result.

The BMA has not returned to the negotiating table or improved on their 2.75 per cent pay offer, which is lower than the 3.5 per cent offered to resident doctors.

Gavin Davies, GMB Regional Officer, said,

"Despite four days of strike action involving hundreds of staff, the BMA still refuse to listen.

"In the absence of any engagement from the BMA, our members are taking further strike action to fight for a decent pay uplift.

"The BMA themselves argue that years of sub-inflationary pay offers are unacceptable, but it seems that only applies to resident doctors and not their own staff.

"Our members believe the BMA's position is untenable and they will not give in until they get a fair pay deal."
