Cadent Gas first call operatives have voted to take industrial action in a bid to secure fairer rosters and a reasonable work–life balance.
Workers say they are forced to work more than half of all weekends, leaving them struggling to book holidays or spend proper time with their families and children.
Despite this, management – who themselves do not work weekends – have dismissed concerns and insisted the current rotas are “reasonable”.
GMB members are calling for a modest and fair change: to work just one fewer Saturday and Sunday per year.
Steven Whittle, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“Cadent’s frontline staff are being pushed to breaking point by an unworkable rota.
“It’s completely unacceptable that the people making these decisions don’t work weekends themselves, but expect our members to give up more than half of theirs.
“Our members deserve a fair balance between their jobs and their home lives.
"We’re urging any Cadent worker who feels affected to join GMB so we can stand together and win the fairness they deserve.”
