Nottinghamshire MPs and tram workers have written to the East Midlands Mayor calling for extension of the network.
Workers from across Nottinghamshire's tram network, represented by GMB trade union, have today issued an open letter to the East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward calling for the extension of the county's tram network.
The letter, co-signed by the union and seven Nottingham and south Nottinghamshire MPs, calls on the East Midlands Combined Authority to champion tram extension.
Colin Whyatt, GMB Organiser, said:
"Nottinghamshire's tram network is regional success story, with workers, students and visitors taking millions of journeys each year.
"Investing in our network is exactly the kind of boost to growth and interconnectivity that the East Midlands needs.
"Thousands of jobs would be created and protected in transport, logistics and manufacturing as a result.
"It's clear that there is wide political and public support for tram extension, all we need is the ambition to get it started".
