GMB is involved in ongoing talks with TSSA about joining with us. Given this developing relationship, we believe it is appropriate for our union to comment on the report by Baroness Kennedy KC into allegations of sexual harassment and bullying within TSSA.
The contents of the report are deeply troubling. It makes clear that TSSA staff and members have been failed by key parts of the senior leadership of the union, who must accept Baroness Kennedy’s recommendations on their positions.
GMB commends the courage of those who came forward to give evidence to the independent inquiry. Their voices must be at the heart of making sure TSSA changes for the better.
Baroness Kennedy is clear that serious and immediate change is required within TSSA. GMB wholly supports this call. Our experience in dealing with historic poor practices and cultures can be helpful in addressing the challenges faced by TSSA, if it is to make the cultural and institutional changes required.
GMB expects a robust and proper response to this report to be applied by TSSA. We stand ready to assist staff and members at this time of crisis and help the union deliver a better future for all
