GMB stands in solidarity with our trans, non-binary and all LGBT+ members following the Supreme Court ruling about the definition of sex in the Equality Act 2010.
Trans workers will be worried about facing increased problems at work following the judgement. It’s important to know that legal protections against discrimination and harassment on the basis of gender reassignment are not changed and GMB will continue to support our members who encounter issues at work.
Whilst it is too soon to say how employers and the government will interpret this complicated decision and what the implications are for employment law, GMB calls on employers to take immediate action to prevent harassment of their trans workers following the judgement.
Along with LGBT+ organisations and other unions we will be taking time to properly assess the judgement and understand how it will impacts our members.
