GMB Trade Union - GMB will fight to save Asda jobs

GMB will ensure the voice of the workforce is heard loud and clear and jobs are protected

GMB has responded to research suggesting up to 73 stores could be forced to close following the Asda-Sainsbury’s merger.

Gary Carter, GMB National Officer, said:

“GMB members at Asda and Sainsbury’s will naturally be concerned about research suggesting 73 stores could be sold off as part of the merger.

“GMB will fight to save jobs and retain stores which are vital to the economic wellbeing of local communities.

“Senior executives need to do more to reassure their workers and guarantee jobs.

“Detailed plans need to be forthcoming and both companies need to work closely with trade unions to get the best outcome for their employees.

“GMB will ensure the voice of the workforce is heard loud and clear and jobs are protected.”
