GMB Trade Union - Hinkley Point supplier faces strike

A Hinkley Point C supplier faces strike action after workers turned down a pay deal.

Engineers at Darchem Engineering, in Stockton-Upon-Tees, voted to walk out by a majority of 87 per cent in an indicative ballot.

A full strike ballot will go ahead if the company doesn’t significantly improve the six per cent offer on the table.,

Industrial action could lead to big delays at Hinkley Point C – the £25 billion nuclear reactor in Somerset.

Andrew Blunt, GMB Organiser, said:

“Darchem has offered workers six per cent, which has been overwhelmingly rejected by our members.

“Instead of coming to the table, Darchem seems happy to fork out for agency work rather than help its own employees during a cost-of-living crisis.

“GMB members feel insulted rather than valued for the skills and hard work they provide.

“A full strike ballot will go ahead if the company doesn’t come back with a significantly improved offer.”
