Mooside land release 'shows momentum building'

GMB Union has welcomed the news 200 acres of land at the former Moorside site will be released for potential new nuclear development.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer yesterday [Tuesday] announced plans to free up land at Moorside to be leased for a new nuclear power plant. [1]

GMB has long campaigned for a sustainable nuclear future in the region and says any future development must deliver high-quality, well-paid jobs, long-term benefits for local communities and ongoing communication with GMB and other unions.

Fran Robson, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

“This announcement is a step in the right direction and we are pleased that our calls for action have been heard.

“GMB has consistently pushed for a nuclear future that puts workers and communities first and this land release shows that momentum is building.

“This is a once in a generation opportunity to secure a better future for West Cumbria and GMB will continue to fight to make sure it delivers for everyone.”
