Staff at Lappets Manufacturing have started voting on strike action, GMB announces today (Friday).
The workers, whose tasks include intricate sewing and quality control, need years of experience to meet required standards.
With high pressure from bosses to meet targets, workers feel undervalued and overworked.
They are urging bosses to come to the table – to discuss fairer pay and more reasonable targets.
Michael Hall, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“These workers do phenomenally skilled, intricate work.
“But their pay doesn’t reflect it. When demand peaks, around Ramadan and other important celebrations, their workload jumps up. Bosses sadly don’t recognise this.
“We are urging the firm to meet us and resolve this amicably. These workers are rightly proud of their valuable work, they just want their employer to respect this.”
