GMB Union has described serious pollution figures - which show incidents by water companies have risen 60 per cent in a year - as an ‘utter disgrace’.
Gary Carter, GMB National Officer, said:
“This level of pollution is an utter disgrace.
“Polluting water companies must clean up their act and stop fouling our rivers and waterways.
“They’ve been handed record funding through rocketing customer bills and if they don’t deliver then regulators need to come down hard and fine them.
“For years these companies have failed, regulators have failed and the Government has done nothing - and we all suffer. Something has to change.”
